Back in 1870 Cornwall was the worlds premier tin supplier and most of the region were employed in this sector. In a short period there were over 2000 mines. Although at that time the region was booming, it lasted only half a century and due to foreign competitors was almost finished . To this day you will still be able to see the remains of many a tin mine, a few of which can be spotted on the coastal paths. For a family educational and fun day out take a visit to World Heritage Site Poldark Mine.
